Obeying in Faith and Trust
When God calls you to do something, He’s not looking for your excuses—He’s looking for your obedience. It’s easy to become overwhelmed by what we think we don’t have: the finances, the time, the experience, or the knowledge. We often look at what we lack and believe that we cannot do what God is asking of us. And we often take it a step further and use that supposed lack as justification for inaction. But here’s the truth: God doesn’t care about your excuses. He isn’t concerned with what you lack, but with your willingness to trust and obey.
One of my favorite examples of this is Noah.
Noah’s Blind Obedience
In the book of Genesis, God commands Noah to build an ark—a massive, intricate structure to survive a flood that would wipe out every living thing on earth. Now, consider the scenario from Noah’s perspective. He had never seen a flood like the one God described, and maybe he didn’t have the resources to build a vessel that could withstand such a disaster. He didn’t have the proper tools, the supplies, or a skilled team of carpenters. All Noah had was faith in God’s word and very specific instructions.
God gave Noah detailed instructions, but no immediate signs of the flood were visible. Just a clear and urgent command to build the ark. Yet, Noah obeyed without question, without a second thought about his resources or his qualifications. His obedience was blind, driven by a deep trust that God’s word would not return void.
Noah didn’t wait until everything was in place; he started immediately. And God provided everything he needed along the way. The flood came. The ark was ready. Noah’s obedience saved his family, preserved creation, and fulfilled God’s plan. God didn’t need Noah to have all the answers. He just needed Noah to obey.
Your Calling: Obeying Without Resources
In the same way, God may be calling you to something big, something that feels impossible—perhaps to start a nonprofit, begin a ministry, or pursue a dream you’ve had for years. Maybe you’re feeling that burning desire to serve others, but there’s one big obstacle holding you back: You don’t have the resources.
Let’s say you feel called to start a nonprofit. You see the need in your community, and your heart aches for the suffering, the injustice, or the disparity. But when you think about the practical side—fundraising, office space, staff, legal requirements, and financial support—you feel completely unequipped. You wonder, How can I possibly do this without the money?
Here’s the thing: God doesn’t need you to have everything figured out. Just like He didn’t need Noah to have the ark already built before he started, He doesn’t need you to have all the funding lined up before you take the first step.
God calls you to act in faith, to move in obedience, even when you can’t see the full picture. When God says, "Go," He will provide. The money, the resources, the connections, the people—these are all in His hands. God is a provider, and He will supply your needs according to His will.
Trusting God to Meet the Needs
Perhaps you’re thinking, “But I still don’t have the money. What if it doesn’t work out? What if I fail?” You’re not alone in that feeling. But consider this: obedience to God is not about your ability to make things happen; it’s about your willingness to step out in faith, trusting that He will equip you along the way.
Look at how many ministries, businesses, and nonprofits were started by people who had no clear resources but a vision from God. Think about the people who stepped into ministry without a seminary degree or the ones who began serving the homeless without knowing where the next meal would come from. The story is always the same: God supplies when we trust and act.
It’s easy to get caught up in the fear of lack—fear of not having enough money, enough time, or enough experience. But God doesn’t care about that. What He’s looking for is faith. What He wants is your obedience, your willingness to step into the unknown, trusting that He is already working behind the scenes to provide everything you need.
Obedience Over Excuses
Excuses are a form of self-reliance. When we make excuses, we’re saying, “I can’t do it because I don’t have enough” or “I’m not qualified.” But God doesn’t need you to rely on your own strength or resources. He simply calls you to trust Him and obey. When you say yes to what God is asking you to do, you’re giving Him room to work in ways that are beyond your comprehension.
So, whether it’s building an ark or starting a nonprofit, know that God doesn’t care about your excuses. He doesn’t care that you don’t have enough money, enough time, or enough experience. What He cares about is your willingness to obey His call and trust that He will provide what you need along the way. Step out in faith, and watch as God meets your needs—just as He did with Noah.
So, what have we learned?
You don’t need to wait for the resources to line up before you act. You don’t need to wait until you feel "ready." God is asking for your obedience today. Trust Him with the vision He has placed in your heart, and take that first step in faith, knowing that He will provide everything you need in His perfect timing.
When you walk in blind obedience—when you step out in faith, not knowing how it will all work out—God will meet you at every turn and guide you to the resources, connections, and success you need. Trust Him, obey, and watch as He brings His plans to life through you.
